About Emilie Ocean

Words and Wanderlust

I hail from the beautiful and vibrant Reunion Island, where I was born and raised. Growing up surrounded by the sun and hot weather has instilled in me a deep appreciation for the warmth of life and the beauty of nature.

My passion for exploration and discovery knows no bounds, as I find myself constantly drawn to new cultures and languages. Travelling has opened my eyes to the vast tapestry of human experiences, enriching my writing with diverse perspectives and insights.

It is a pleasure to share a glimpse into my world where my passions for travel, languages, and literature converge to create a tapestry of storytelling.

Language is the key that unlocks the doors to different cultures and worlds, and I am fortunate to be fluent in Reunionese Creole, French, and English. Additionally, I can comfortably engage in conversations in Spanish and enjoy reading in the language as well. In addition to my love for languages, I have a deep-rooted affinity for yoga, meditation, and the simple joys of long walks by the sea (especially with my furry companion!). Yes, it may sound cliché, but there's something truly magical about the rhythmic crashing of waves and the vast expanse of the ocean that never fails to inspire me.

Educational Odyssey

My educational journey has been as diverse and enriching as my love for languages and travel. I hold a BA degree in LLCE from Blaise Pascal University, France, where my passion for literary studies continued to grow. My academic path mirrors my adventurous spirit, with each year of study taking me to a new corner of the world. From my initial year at the University of Reunion Island to my subsequent year at Blaise Pascal University in France, and finally to NUIG in Ireland, each location has shaped my perspective and enriched my understanding of language and literature.

Building on this foundation, I pursued an MA degree in Literary Translation at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, delving deeper into the art of linguistic expression and cultural interpretation.

It was during my time in Ireland that I honed my skills further, obtaining a certificate in proofreading to complement my translation expertise.

Writing

Linguistic diversity not only broadens my horizons but also enriches my writing as I strive to capture the essence of multilingual characters and their unique voices.
As a writer, ghostwriter, and editor, I have the privilege of bringing words to life and crafting stories that resonate with readers across genres.

In October 2023, my debut novel, a spicy superhero fantasy novelette titled A Warrior's Requiem: Protectors was released, serving as the prequel to my esteemed Chronicles of Protectors series. This milestone marked the beginning of an exciting chapter in my writing career, propelling me to new heights as an author.

Business Owner

In addition to crafting narratives, I also work as an editor, helping authors refine their voices and polish their manuscripts.

As an indie author myself, I believe wholeheartedly in the power of self-publishing. And I am over the moon to announce that I am the proud co-owner of Booked & Hooked (www.bookedandhooked.com), an online bookstore created in partnership with the talented Author Luisa Perez. Our mission is to provide a supportive platform for indie authors, offering them the opportunity to reach a wider audience and share their unique stories. That is also where you will be able to purchase signed copies of my books.
